FIX:
A non-hardening fix is recommended to ensure print permanenceand will allow the print to readily accept toner. To obtain proper fixation follow fix manufacturer's guidelines. Test fixing solution frequently to prevent under fixation due to exhausted fixing solution. Do not exceed recommended fixing times when using rapid fixer. Extended times may result in a decrease in D-Max* and/or a bleaching of highlights. All fix times require constant agitation and a rotation of prints if fixing multiple prints at the same time.

Recommended fix temperatures 65°F-75°F (18°C-24°C).

WASH:
Wash prints thoroughly in running water for a minimum of 60 minutes. A washing agent may be used to decrease amount of wash time required. The following chart is based on a 100% water exchange every 5 minutes at a temperature of 60°F (16°C) or higher. Colder water will drastically increase wash times. Temperatures higher than 80°F will soften emulsion allowing an increased possibility of damage. Follow individual manufacturers recommended dilution rates and wash times.

*D-Max; Maximum density of black achieved by any paper. (Loss of D-Max will make blacks look dull).

Kodak Hypo Clearing Agent 2-3 Min. 3-5 Min. 30-35 Min.
Heico Permawash 5 Min. 5 Min. 15 Min.
Tap Water N/A NA 120 Min.

DRYING:
Prints may be dried between new or perfectly clean photographic blotters. Prints may also be air dried by placing prints with excess water squeegeed off on suitable drying racks or screens. An inert or nonabsorbent surface may be used as a drying surface or prints may be hung using suitable clips. Rotary drum dryers may be used with a new apron, cloth or blanket to preserve the archival quality of the paper. Older aprons or blankets may contain fixer and contaminate the paper.

TONING:
Forte Polygrade V accepts toners readily using standard techniques. Toners such as Kodak Rapid Selenium Toner works best when a higher dilution is used. Dilution rate of 1:20-1:66 with atoning time of 2-10 minutes. Time and dilution rate will depend on the tonal color desired.

STORAGE:
Unexposed paper should be stored in the original black plastic bag within the original envelope or box. Unexposed paper may also be stored in a light tight paper safe. Recommended storage temperatures should not exceed 80°F (25°C). To extend the life of the paper, refrigerated storage is recommended. Developed prints rnay be stored at room temperature with 50-60% relative humidity. Prints should be protected from direct heat and sunlight. Steam, gases, and chemicals may also effect image permanence.

PLEASE NOTE:
Forte Warm Tone Polygrade Elegance is sensitive to the blue and green portion of the spectrum of the light source used. The color temperature of the light source, lamphouse type (viz. Condenser of Diffusion) and the color cast and contrast of your enlarging lens can greatly alter the affect of any filter pack on paper grade. It is highly advisable that tests be run with the specific light source, lens and filter set to determine the true range of contrasts that Forte Warm Tone Polygrade Elegance is producing under your specific darkroom conditions. It is possible to use Kodak, Ilford and other manufacturers contrast control filter sets. Your results will vary accordingly. Typical of this variation is the following chart for a specific enlarger, light source and lens using Kodak Polycontrast II and Ilford Multigrade III filter sets:

Kodak Filter # 0 1 2 3 4 5
Effective Grade 0 1 2 4
Ilford Filter # 0 1 2 3 4 5
